केवळ घरगुती उपयोगासाठी म्हणून एक म्हैस विकत घेण्यात आली आणि त्यातून ह्या घराण्याचे म्हैस पालन व्यवसायात पदार्पण झाले. चार पिढ्यांपासून चालत आलेला हा एका म्हशीचा व्यवसाय आज जवळपास चारशे म्हशींच्या फार्म मध्ये रुपांतरीत झालेला दिसतो.
आजपासून साधारण १०० वर्षांपूर्वी पासून ते १९७८ साला पर्यंत सोनवणे घराण्याचा हा व्यवसाय पुण्यात चालू होता. त्यानंतर १९९२ साला पर्यंत वडगाव शेरीतील कल्याणी गावात आणि त्यानंतर दौंड येथील राहू गावात हा व्यवसाय जोमाने चालू राहिला.
सोनवणे फार्म मधील सर्व म्हशी ह्या मुर्हा जातीच्या आहेत. स्थानिक विकल्या जाणाऱ्या म्हशी बरेचदा फॉल्टी निघण्याची शक्यता असते, ज्यामुळे शेतकऱ्याला तोटा होतो. म्हणूनच येथील सर्व म्हशी हरियाणा राज्यातून विकत घेतलेल्या आहेत. हरियाणातील म्हशींना महाराष्ट्रातील वातावरणाची सवय व्हायला पंधरा दिवसांचा कालावधी लागतो. पण त्यानंतर त्या म्हशी कधीच त्रासदायक ठरत नाहीत. फक्त विकत घेताना म्हशीची जात, वय, ठेवण आणि दूध उत्पादन क्षमता तपासून घेणे गरजेचे असते.How To Start Dairy Farming Business In Marathi

ज्यामुळे म्हशींच्या शरीरातील हिट संतुलित राहून दुग्ध उत्पादनावर त्याचा फार परिणाम होत नाही. या फार्म वर कामासाठी एकूण अठरा कामगार आहेत. ते सर्व म्हशींची संपूर्णपणे निगा राखण्याचे काम करतात. तसेच फार्म मधील प्रत्येक म्हशीच्या दुधाची, तब्येतीची, आहाराची नोंद करून रेकॉर्डस तयार ठेवतात. ज्यामुळे एक एक म्हशीचा आढावा घेणे सोईचे होते. त्याचबरोबर फार्म मधील म्हाशिंसाठी सोनवणे यांनी १२ एकरात सुपर नेपियर चारा पिकाची लागवड केली आहे. ह्यात १४ टक्के प्रोटीन असल्यामुळे हा चारा जनावरांसाठी गुणकारी आहे. एवढ्या मोठ्या संख्येने जिवंत जनावरांचा व्यवसाय करत असताना वैयक्तिक आयुष्य बाजूला ठेवून दिवसरात्र खपावे लागते. प्रचंड मेहनत, जिद्द आणि अथक परिश्रम यातूनच व्यवसायाचे वटवृक्ष इतके पसरवले जाऊ शकते.
